Depending on where you live, finding old truss bridges can be commonplace or a lengthy drive.  Other times, you come across one through serendipitous means.  That happened to me over the Summer of 2023 while exploring South Central Kentucky.  A small, nearly 100-year-old truss bridge, on a quiet rural backroad in Logan County. The Logan Mill Road Bridge is nothing out of the ordinary.  It crosses the Red River and has been in place since 1925.  Part of its story is how it remains standing as of 2023.  In 2012, District Three of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet studied whether or not the structurally deficient bridge should be replaced. California State Route 226 is a former State Highway which was aligned between Orosi and Orange Cove.  California State Route 226 was commissioned during 1964 from what had been the northern extent of Legislative Route Number 132.  1965 Legislative Chapter 1372 deleted California State Route 226 and transferred the entire routing to a realigned California State Route 63.   Part 1; the history of California State Route 226 What was to become California State Route 226 was added to the State Highway System in 1933 as part of Legislative Route Number 132 (LRN 132) north of Orosi to Orange Cove.  LRN 132 north of Orosi can be seen following Road 128 and Avenue 460 to Orange Cove on the 1935 Division of Highways Map of Tulare County .  LRN 132 north of Orosi did not receive one of the initial Sign State Routes which were announced during August 1934.  LRN 132 north of Orosi connected with Sand Creek Road which was once the primary highway to the logging to...

Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive is a ten-mile component of Texas State Highway Loop 375 located in the El Paso area.  Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive connects US Route 54 west over the Franklin Mountains to Interstate 10 (also US Route 85 and US Route 180) and functions as a bypass to downtown El Paso.  Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive undoubtedly is the most notable part of the overall forty-nine-mile routing of Texas State Highway Loop 375.  Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive opened in 1970 and carries grades as high as 8%.  The corridor of Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive passes through Franklin Mountains State Park and Castner Range National Monument.   Part 1; the history of Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive Fusselman Canyon is a natural cut which follows a fault of the same name through the Franklin Mountains.  The terrain of Fusselman Canyon has made it a natural bypass of much of El Paso well before the establishment of Woodrow Bean Transmountai...
