I took a road trip on Saturday (10/26) to attend the Fall Meeting of the New England Archivists professional association being held at Amherst College. The trip took me along the lower half of the '128 Belt' (I-93 and I-95) from Braintree to the Mass Pike West to I-91in Springfield and north from there to MA 9 to Amherst. I took the opportunity to make note, and take some photos, on progress of signage projects I saw along the way. A. I-93 Braintree to Randolph No progress here, little done in the last month. Hopefully work done on the SE Expressway stretch, but did not have time to check that area. The only thing going on was pavement work, fortunately, on I-93/US 1 North which closed down 2 lanes and backed up traffic in the morning back to I-95 (and was still going on when I returned that night, unfortunately). B. I-95 Add-A-Lane Project, Dedham to Needham No signage changes along the active construction zone northbound, but work has progressed near the MA 109 intercha...

Got my first chance in nearly a month to check out progress in the sign update project going on along I-93 from Boston south. There are some new things to report, especially if you are a fan of overhead sign supports. If you are a fan of overhead signage itself, not so much. However, you may now have something to look forward to in the not so distant future. A. I-93/US 1 South Between Braintree and Randolph It appears all the supports are now up on both sides of the highway going this direction. This includes supports for the MA 28 interchange, Exit 5. Here are the supports for the future 1/2 mile advance signs: Between these overheads and those at the interchange itself is the future left-hand support for the MA 24 interchange, Exit 4: The new sign is right over the Randolph town line. Apparently, there are no plans for an additional 2-mile advance sign for MA 24 in this direction. The supports at the MA 28 exit itself are awaiting their new signs as well behind the existing ...

Prologue Before I start with Day 2, thought I should wrap up, and provide explanation why the Day 1 post stopped after getting to New Hampshire. After crossing into Vermont, I decided to get some exercise by checking out the Quechee Gorge State Park off of US 4 (Exit 1 off of I-89). This is when the fun started. First, it decided, when I was halfway to the Gorge, to start raining. I decided to return quickly back to the car, and in doing so, unbeknownst to me, dropped my wallet on the Gorge Trail. I then drove through often deluging rain (and speeds less than 30 mph) the 50 miles north on I-89 to my hotel. When I finally got there around 4PM and was asked for my credit card for reservation confirmation, it was then I found out I had no wallet, so no cash, cards, license, etc. Since my only stop was at Quechee, I headed back down there, fortunately, for the drive, the rain had stopped.
