US 117 Connector - North

The four lane highway from I-40 near Faison to US 117 near Mount Olive has recently been signed as US 117 Connector. This is the first time I have seen a 'Connector' route signed.

Where else are 'Connector' routes signed?

Connectors are common in Georgia. (I mean formal Connectors, not the informal designation of I-75/85 through the center of Atlanta). Usually they are associated with state routes but not always.

I've seen CONN. 3 listed on a Virginia map near Frederickburg, but I've never been there.
